The Vicarial Chapter Elects Three New Councilors

“Do whatever he tells you.” –John 2, 5

The second day of the Vicarial Chapter began with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass celebrated by Fr. Alfredo Ma. Biong, OSM with other concelebrating Servite priests. Fr. Zacarias Tampus, OSM, who delivered the homily, reminded the friars of the very words of Our Lady at the wedding at Cana, “Do whatever he tells you.” He said, this is the mission of a Servite. He also asked everyone, “How am I responding to the Lord’s call?” This question reminded all the friars of their commitment to the call of the Lord and the very word of the Blessed Mother about true discipleship.

With the report of the out-going Vicar Provincial, the morning session of the Chapter started. Rev. Fr. Deogracias Ma. Alejandria, OSM read the transcript of his report to the friars while they were following what he was reading by their own copy of the said report. The friars were given chances to ask significant questions and clarifications to the out-going Vicar Provincial after his report. There were many concerns and clarifications raised, such as the status of the Marianum College and other important matters in connection with the report. The Vicar patiently answered every question and clarified some points being asked of him by his brothers. Some of the persons mentioned, who were directly involved in the matters being discussed, also clarified their convictions. At the end of the report, the Father Delegate thanked the out-going Vicar Provincial. The Father Treasurer, Rev. Fr. Jesus Ma. Diaz, OSM also reported about his office. He presented the finances of the vicariate to the body. Some of the friars intervened with the spokesman about the income and expenses of the vicariate. Fr. Jess calmly answered all the interventions and assured the body that he had all the records intact should there be any other queries regarding the income and expenses of the vicariate. The Father Treasurer was willing to accommodate everyone who would clarify things out about matters concerning his office.

All twenty five friars were present when the election of councilors started. The moderator of the election was Rev. Fr. Vincent Ma. Badongen, OSM and the tabulators were Rev. Fr. Ryan Ma. Ipili, OSM and Rev. Fr. Robert Ma. Solis, OSM. After a series of scrutiny, Rev. Fr. Zacarias Ma. Tampus, OSM was proclaimed the first councilor-elect and he accepted it. Election ballots were counted and announced by the Father Moderator. The votes casted were tabulated and the body came up with a decision. The Father Delegate announced the second councilor-elect, Rev. Fr. Marciano Ma. Doloroso, OSM and he accepted it. Electing the third councilor was also successful but Rev. Fr. Rolly Ma. Daquigan, OSM, who was voted by the majority, declined to become the third councilor. It was only after another round of voting that the friars elected Rev. Fr. Renato Ma. Gella, OSM as the third councilor and he accepted it. By accepting the responsibilities entrusted to them by their brothers, those elected in the positions find a higher call to service pro Ecclesia et Ordine. May Our Lady, the Queen of her servants guide and inspire these brothers as they embark on a new mission.
